The Minimalist
Minimalist fashion is defined by one major principle: keep it simple!
Simplicity is the key to pinpointing this style and the one main goal: get back to basics.
Pieces to Wear:
Think thick sweaters, straight-leg black jeans, white tee, white blouse, crisp button-ups , structured blazers, simple dress, and ankle boots. Also, look to these main shapes: box cuts (perfect for tops and sweaters), shift and A-line (for dresses and skirts) and straight silhouettes (for your pants and jeans!). Items without extra frills, like ruffles or embroidery are your best bet for minimalist fashion—plus you want to be able to mix and match everything!
Layers & Textures:
This tip is particularly useful in the fall and winter. When it's colder outside and you get puzzled about what, or how much, to wear, turn to layers. You can get a lot out of a few simple layers. For instance, pair dark, slim-cut pants with a comfortable, light sweater. Then, layer a chic scarf over your sweater and complete the picture with a long, dark trench coat. You don't have to wear much, and you can stay warm. The minimalist style is about simplicity, not boredom for the eyes. Give some diversity to your dress and mix up smooth fabrics with textured accents.
To wear or not to wear color:
Being a minimalist doesn't have to mean boring! There is still room for self-expression in minimalism. If you love a pair of mustard pants so dearly that you can’t bear to let them go, do you! When you’ve selected your bbright color, be sure to pair it with a more neutral base, like dark wash jeans or black, wide-leg trousers. If you’re itching for color, give a chic, tonal outfit a try—like pairing a fuchsia top with rose-colored trousers.
Keep it simple:
When you pick out your minimalist outfit, leave it as is. Try not to dress it up with flashy jewelry or extra pieces because it will throw off your minimalist look. Make a statement with what you have.
